Collaborative Pianist & Accompanist
Marten is a highly experienced pianist and collaborative accompanist, recognised for his musical sensitivity, stylistic versatility and ability to bring out the very best in every performer.
Over many years, he has accompanied singers, instrumentalists, choirs and ensembles across a wide range of settings, including concerts, examinations, auditions, competitions, recitals, festivals and recordings. His collaborative approach, combined with exceptional sight-reading and a deep understanding of musical interpretation, enables performers to feel confident, supported and artistically free.
Marten's experience spans a broad range of musical styles, from Classical, Romantic and Contemporary repertoire through to Music Theatre, Jazz, Pop and contemporary commercial music. Whether working with a young musician preparing for an examination or an experienced performer presenting a recital, he is committed to creating performances of the highest artistic standard.
As a Chief Assessor for VCE Music Performance (Contemporary) and a long-standing VCAA assessor, Marten has extensive knowledge of VCE Music Performance requirements. He regularly works with students preparing for Unit 4 performance examinations, helping them refine both the musical and expressive aspects of their programs. His understanding of the assessment criteria, performance practice and repertoire expectations allows him to provide support that extends beyond accompaniment alone.
Marten is also an experienced music theatre répétiteur, collaborating with performers for auditions, rehearsals, cabaret performances, productions and concert presentations. His ability to quickly learn repertoire, adapt to performers and communicate musical ideas makes him a trusted collaborative pianist for both emerging and professional artists.
