Marten holds a Bachelor of Music with major studies in Vocal Performance and Choral Conducting and postgraduate studies in Music Education, Christian Ministry & Educational Leadership.
He has studied Choral Conducting with Andrew Wailes (Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorale), Dr. Ian Burk (Australian Catholic University) and Dr. Geoffrey Cox (St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne).
He has also conducted in Choral Master classes with Dr Rodney Eichenberger (Florida State University, United States), Dr Andre` Thomas (Florida State University, United States) and Ass. Prof. Carl Crossin (Elder Conservatorium, Australia).
Marten has also studied voice performance and vocal pedagogy with Loris Synan (Monash University, Australia) and Susan Breen-Clark (Melbourne University, Australia).

As a conductor, Marten has been the Principal Artistic Director of the Chime Choir, Melbourne for over 10 years. This is a large, professional choral organisation based in Melbourne, who host several annual concerts, undertake a large volume of corporate engagements and regularly tour internationally. He is working with the ensemble as an Associate Director.
In 2019, Marten was been appointed the Director of Music over St Margaret's and Berwick Grammar School, in Melbourne, Victoria. This is a leading school for Choral Music and Music Education. Marten was the Leader of Performing Arts and Head of Vocal and Choral Studies at Wantirna College, Melbourne. He worked at the College for over 13 years, and together with a team of 15 Instrumental teachers and staff, they have developed one of Victoria's most outstanding Instrumental Music Programs. As part of his role at Wantirna, Marten also conducted a 100 voice SAB Choir, taught VCE classroom music and also private vocal tuition to over 40 students. |
As a Musical Director, Marten has conducted and played piano in a large volume of Music Theatre shows, with recent productions including Les Miserables, The Wiz, A Very Potter Musical, Back to the 80’s, Grease the Musical, Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, Shrek the Musical, High School Musical and Matilda, the Musical.
Marten has worked as a guest conductor, consultant and adjudicator with the National Institute for Performing Arts Australia, The Australian Children's Choir, the Mildura Eisteddfod, the Bathurst Eisteddfod, the Jubilate Choir Melbourne, Toorak College, Mt Eliza, Eltham College, Presbyterian Ladies’ College, Gippsland Grammar School, Haileybury College, Donvale Christian College, Peninsula College, The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority and the North Eastern Victorian Regional Education Office.

As a singer, Marten has a vast amount of performance experience in concerts and recitals across Australia and he has also performed in international tours of South East Asia, The Netherlands, England, Scotland, North America, Canada and New Zealand. He has sung as a soloist in light opera and oratorio and continues to sing in many major venues across Melbourne. In addition to this Marten's strength in contemporary and pop music often see's him in the studio as a session vocalist, backing vocalist and voice coach.

In 2018, Marten was thrilled to be invited, together with The Chime Choir, to perform at the renowned Carnegie Hall, and undertake a performance tour across various venues in New York, supported by Distinguished Concerts, International.
Marten is a fully accredited member and committee member of the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing Limited, a mentor conductor with Australian National Choral Association and registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
Marten has a keen interest in working with younger singers and helping them to develop a consistent singing technique, solid understanding of vocal anatomy and good ensemble performance skills.
